Permanent Make-up Faq's

Q: What are permanent cosmetics?
A: Permanent cosmetics is the process of implanting color into the dermal layer of the skin with the use of a specially designed and approved instrument.

Q: How long does the procedure take?
A: Each procedure will take between one and two hours. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled four to six weeks afterward.

Q: How long does a permanent cosmetic application last?
A: The procedure is permanent, although some clients can experience fading due to, for example, UV exposure. This typically is done after 2 to 5 years.

Q: Is there a chance I could have an allergic reaction?
A: Allergic reactions to permanent cosmetics is very RARE. Tattoos have been preformed for thousands of years and there are very few cases reported of a reaction. The chance is less than 1% in over 100,000 procedures preformed nationwide. If you are concerned, you should discuss this with your technician.

Q: What colors should I choose?
A: There is a right color for everyone. Your natural skin, eye and hair colors are taken into consideration. A soft, natural color is preferred. Endless shades are also available for blondes, brunettes and for those natural redheads. Any color can be made to compliment your coloring.

Q: Is the procedure painful?
A: Methods of controlling pain and discomfort during permanent cosmetic application have come a long way. Today's over-the-counter topicals used during application make the procedures very tolerable, most clients feeling just vibrations while others say they feel nothing at all. Most clients will come for one procedure and eventually have others.

Q: Will I have a to take off work?
A: No, there is minimum swelling and redness. It usually takes about 7-10 days before the wound has healed and 4-6 weeks before the color settles.

Q: Can I wear make-up after the procedure is done?
A: It is recommended that you wear no mascara if eye color has been applied to your eyes, and no lipstick if your lips are colored. The procedure site needs to heal for about 7 to 10 days.

Q: What about sterilization?
A: Regardless of the equipment used, the important issue of sterilization remains. Machines must be broken down and cleaned to prevent and cross-contamination. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued guidelines that technicians must follow. All needles in permanent cosmetic application procedures are single-use and must be disposed of in biohazard containers. Needles are never re-used, even on the same client.

Q: What are the colors made from?
A: The colors used are made primarily from the earth's iron oxides and mixed with various ingredients to make a liquid suitable for implantation in the skin.

Q: What tools are used to perform the procedure?
A: The Nouveau Contour Intelligent, a digital state-of-the-art computerized technology. It is equipped and controlled by an Intel microprocessor "chip". The Intelligent's central processing unit offers the most advanced features, which allow for the selection of pre-programmed settings for various procedures, i.e. eyebrow, eyeliner, lip color and medical procedures. There is minimal trauma to the skin and you get excellent results in less time.

Q: What is the typical age of your client?
A: Somewhere between 20 and 90.

Q: I have no eyebrow hair at all. Will permanent cosmetics still look natural?
A: Absolutely. It probably takes you more time each morning just to get both eyebrows to match and they probably don't look the same day after day. With permanent cosmetics we can make it easy for you to wake-up feeling complete with eyebrows everyday.

Q: I have eyebrow hair but it is very thin and sparse. Do I have to shave off what is there to have permanent eyebrows done?
A: No. The more eyebrow hair you have in the eyebrow area, the more natural the finished results look.

Q: Are permanent cosmetics right for me?
A: Personally, I can't think of anyone who would not benefit from having permanent cosmetics. Imagine waking up and looking great twenty-four hours a day. Whether your 20 or 90 years old, it's a great feeling when you always look your best. It helps build our inner self and gives us a sense of well-being.

Q: How long has tattooing been around?
A: People have been tattooing their bodies for thousands of years, but cosmetic tattooing began in the late 1970's. In today's concept, tattooing and permanent cosmetics are very different in the minds of America's mainstream clients. There seems to be much less stigma attached to the words 'permanent cosmetics.' Clients realize that tattooing refers to work done on the body, while permanent cosmetic application refers to artistic work done on the face or for cosmetic camouflage purposes.
